Urban Renewal and Affordable Housing

Israel’s current urban renewal policies are purely market driven, with little thought to the impact on existing communities.

Bimkom seeks to advance a community specific, socially and economically sustainable model for affordable housing and urban renewal, through:

Work with communities Bimkom informs residents in areas requiring urban renewal and/ or affordable housing, of planning options which involve the community and we assist residents in expressing their needs to the planning authorities.

Research Bimkom has conducted a comprehensive research report into various urban renewal strategies in Israel and abroad, including recommendations for workable, equitable solutions.

Planning objections and legal cases Bimkom files objections to residential plans which are detrimental to communities and/or do not include affordable housing options.

Promoting changes in policy and practice Bimkom is in constant contact with key figures in the government and the various planning authorities to raise the issues of community participation, affordable housing and responsible urban renewal, and to push for changes that will offer real solutions.
