Building density
The number of residential units that can be built, according to the provisions of the plan that applies there, expressed in the number of housing units per a standard land measure, such as hectare, dunam (10 dunams equal one hectare) or acre. In urban areas, the building density is usually much higher than in rural areas, where building tends to be more spread out. In order to reconcile the housing needs of the local population with the limited lands for development, the government planners often assign very high building densities in their plans for Arab and Palestinian villages, rather than providing more land for less dense development. These high building densities are often un-implementable in practice.
