Closed military zone
Areas declared by an Israeli military commander of the West Bank to be closed for anyone not specifically authorized to enter it. Closed military zones sometimes apply to the area around an army base, e.g., the military headquarters in Beit El; but in other cases they cover vast areas of land which are rarely used for genuine military needs. In the case where a closed military zone contains homes, the residents are in some cases permitted to remain in the area, however other people may not enter, and generally no new building is allowed. Closed military zones are at times utilized in this fashion to limit Palestinian access to their land and to disallow construction. The army can also declare temporary closed military zones, especially in areas of confrontation or conflict.
