Records of Recent Demolitions, Demolition Orders, and Building Permits

Through the Freedom of Information Act, Bimkom has received records of demolitions and building permits in Area C between the years 2016 and 2020. An English breakdown is written below, while the full Hebrew document can be found here.

2016 – Out of 540 submitted building permit requests, only 6 were granted. There were 673 active demolition orders and 63 demolitions.

2017 – Out of 468 submitted building permit requests, only 6 were granted.  There were 745 active demolition orders and 50 demolitions.

2018 – Out of 477 submitted building permit requests, 420 to already-built structures, only 5 were granted. There were 582 active demolition orders and 29 demolitions.

2019 – Out of 495 submitted building permit requests, 417 to already-built structures, only 2 were granted. There were 643 active demolition orders and 32 demolitions.

2020 – Out of 570 submitted building permit requests, 465 to already-built structures, only 5 were granted. There were 797 active demolition orders and 37 demolitions.

Overall, that’s 2,550 permit requests, with only 24 of them being accepted; less than one percent of permits were granted over a five-year span, while almost nine times as many buildings were demolished (211) as were approved. Discriminatory policies are creating an artificial housing crisis in Area C.
